Kingdom of Egypt, struck at Alexandria during the reign of Cleopatra III and her son Ptolemy IX (116–51 BC). Obverse: Diademed head of Zeus-Ammon facing right. Reverse: Two eagles with wings closed, standing left on thunderbolt; cornucopia in field. Reference: Svoronos 1426; Faucher & Lorber Series 9; SNG Cop. 311–314. Size & Weight: 19.6 mm, 8.6 g. The double eagle design was a powerful symbol of dynastic rule in Ptolemaic Egypt, while the cornucopia represented prosperity and abundance. This type circulated widely in Alexandria during the late Ptolemaic era, just a generation before the rise of Cleopatra VII and the Roman conquest of Egypt. A genuine piece of ancient Egyptian history, ideal for collectors of Greek, Egyptian, or Roman-era coinage.
