Pair of Vintage French Faïence Storage Jars - Breton Figures - c. 1950s

A pretty pair of small French faïence storage jars, each hand-painted with a traditional Breton couple in colourful folk dress, surrounded by stylised floral sprays. Though clearly from the same workshop and period, the two were painted by different decorators - a detail that gives them individual character while maintaining a perfectly matched display look. Both jars feature blue spongeware edging to the lids and bases, and metal clip closures with intact hinges. They remain clean and functional, ideal for use in a rustic kitchen or as part of a French country collection. One jar is in very good vintage condition, while the other shows light wear, including two small chips (one to the handle, one near the body) and some glaze crazing typical of age. The interiors are clean, and both sit flat and close securely. Unmarked, but likely Quimper or a related Breton faïence workshop, dating from the mid-20th century.
