Gestalt counselling in action - Petruška Clarkson The Gestalt approach to counsélling recognises that human functioning is biologically and socially need-based, and operates in a cyclical fashion. As one need is fulfilled, another arises, itself seeking fulfilment. If this natural cycle is interrupted, acutely or chronically, difficulties occur. This book provides the counsellor and student of counselling with a clear guide to the philosophical and theoretical bases of Gestalt therapy. It is designed to follow the developmental stages in the counselling process, reinforcing the way in which process and content interact over time in the helping relationship. It relates the cycle of formation and destruction to the different stages, providing extensive examples of treatment and the specific techniques appropriate to each step and to different kinds of clients. This practical and comprehensive book is based on almost twenty years' experience of using, teaching and supervising the Gestalt approach and is aimed at those who are starting training in counselling skills and those in practice but working within the framework of other orientations. Petrüska Clarkson - a Clinical Psychologist - is Director of Clinical Training in Gestalt at the metanoia Psychotherapy Training Institute in London, and is a visiting lecturer to several universities, colleges and training programmes. She is the Chairperson of the Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Institute in Britain and has written several articles on Gestalt therapy.
