This espresso blend was created in 2005 with the opening of the Hayes Valley Kiosk store in downtown San Francisco.
It is the darkest espresso in Blue Bottle Coffee's product line.
Drinking it by the shot, you can feel the chunky weight, the rich reddish-brown crema, as well as the silky quality. Add milk and you get a sugary cocoa-like sweetness that makes its presence felt strongly in a mere 90 ml macchiato or in a 360 ml latte. This blend has a rounded, dark chocolatey sweetness that can be brewed by drip.
The dark chocolatey richness and creamy mouthfeel of this espresso blend, reminiscent of brown sugar, makes it a perfect partner for milk.
